Song for my children

Song for my children (Hendrawan, S.Pd)
Some might say that teaching English to children is difficult. Why? Because their brain’s ability to absorb knowledge is small (Lee, Ilchi : 2007), in other hand they must start to learn acquiring knowledge for their future. Teacher as the most responsible person in building children’s knowledge besides parents should start to teach them. To motivate children start to learn is by getting them interested. Song as universal language could be used to motivate them because song is unique and interesting (Dorsey, Kathleen : 2007). Many children do likes songs, sing a song in funny way will let children absorb more knowledge easily (Dorsey, Kathleen : 2007). When children are interested in song, they will sing it again and again, sure it will be memorized in their mind as knowledge they had acquired.

Teaching English through songs will be a good method for Asian children. Songs they sang not only shows their ability in pronounced words but also it show their interest and reflect their personality (Philip Arthur : 2009). Indonesian children today’s are tend to be imitating teenager’s song because they like it. It is a good phenomenon because when they imitating they practice how to spell, pronounce like a native by listening the authentic sounds of each words. Through song children can know more about vocabulary, build their ability in speaking especially pronouncing and also memorizing the song they like. In case, not only short stories which provide moral values, song in its lyrics also include some good massages to the listeners. This moral value is very important for children, we can’t decline its build children personality and moral respect to the others (Hansen, Marsha : 2006).
