World Wide Web Implication on Students’ Way of Learning

World Wide Web Implication on Students’ Way of Learning
The rapid expansion and growth of the World Wide Web in the past decade has expanded the boundaries of time and space. People’s working and learning methods have changed become more fast and flexible, and people just say more efficient. It’s affected everything; include students as internet users who become an actor in cyber-plagiarism. Some might say that cheating is a common problem in our education system, yes it is true. It’s like a black dot in internet development. Because as we know, cheating becomes so much easier and quicker through internet as they call cyber-cheating, is the use of technology tools in inappropriate ways for academic work.

Plagiarize is taking someone’s work and pretend it as one’s own (Oxford Dictionary, Oxford Press). While Judy Anderson in her book “Plagiarism, Copyright Violation, and other Thefts of Intelectual Property” said that plagiarism is one of copyright violation which should be banned because it harm the real author and the most important thing was author ideas. Hey, why they (students) doing this to learn? That was a crime. As we know education would be meaningless if knowledge that teacher gave will not be absorbed by the students. Sure, they will learn but they won’t comprehend the information given because they just copy-paste the information without knowing what is it about. And the bottom line, they will tend to be a plagiarist and more and more they will become lazier in learning – doing tasks and exercises.

It is awful, when we asked junior high school students why they did this? They said “the task given by teachers was too difficult for us, we need an answer, and the easier way to look out for it was through internet”; other said “I feel lazy to do the task”. The main point of those reasons above is their laziness led them to be a plagiarist. And in the end they will become an INCOMPETENCE STUDENT. Slow but sure plagiarism in education sector will become a hot trend in future era where internet spread out all over the world.
